Woman fails to carry out sentence properly

CLEVELAND, Nov. 14 (UPI) -- A judge said she is not happy with the way a Cleveland woman carried out the first day of her sentence for driving around a school bus on the sidewalk.

Cleveland Municipal Court Judge Pinkey S. Carr said she saw television footage of Shena Hardin smoking and texting while she was supposed to be holding up a sign that labeled her an "idiot," The (Cleveland) Plain Dealer reported.

Hardin pleaded guilty last week to failure to stop for a school bus and was fined $250.

In addition, Carr ordered her to stand on a corner for an hour Tuesday and Wednesday holding up a 22-inch sign that reads: "Only an idiot would drive on the sidewalk to avoid a school bus."

"I saw television footage of her smoking and texting and the only time she held that sign up was to use it as a shield to block the wind so she could light up her cigarettes," Carr said. "She was making a mockery of my court order."

Carr told Hardin's attorney she intends to stop by Wednesday and "wants to see something different."
