PASSAIC, N.J., Nov. 14 (UPI) -- A New Jersey woman has been arrested on charges of trying to hire a hit man to kill her husband, a Passaic County prosecutor said.
Mirtha Marchena-Chavez of Lodi is accused of conspiracy to commit murder and is being held on $500,000 bail, The (Newark, N.J.) Star-Ledger reported Wednesday
Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes said detectives had Marchena-Chavez under surveillance when she met with a prospective hit man to negotiate an up-front payment.
Marchena-Chavez provided specific instructions on how and where the murder should take place and told the hit man he had to give her proof that the deed was done before receiving final payment, Valdes said.
There was no information on whether the hit man was a police informant or why Marchena-Chavez allegedly wanted her husband killed.
