Search for abducted girl turns up clothing

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 14 (UPI) -- Los Angeles police said a 455-acre search near the El Sereno Recreation Center turned up no sign of a teenage girl whom witnesses said was abducted.

Police Chief Charlie Beck told a news conference that searchers found leggings and a pair of tennis shoes, the Los Angeles Times reported Wednesday.

"While we have located some physical evidence that supports the abduction, we have not found any evidence that the young lady is still in the park," Beck said.

Two witnesses phoned police Monday night to report that a young man had dragged a teenage girl kicking and screaming into the brush that surrounds the park.

The calls sparked a massive search Tuesday that included mounted police officers, the Los Angeles Fire Department and the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

Search and rescue teams from Malibu, Sierra Madre and San Dimas also participated in the effort.

Beck said the matter would be turned over to LAPD detectives.
