Man allegedly threatened Obama, children

DENVER, Nov. 14 (UPI) -- A Colorado nursing student allegedly told federal investigators he wanted to kill President Obama and children trick-or-treating on Halloween.

Court documents described Mitchell Kusick, a student at Colorado Mesa University in Grand Junction, as obsessed with two mass shootings Virginia Tech and at Columbine High School in Colorado, The Denver Post reported Wednesday. He allegedly said he "studied" the recent killings at a movie theater in Aurora, Colo., and was said to be fascinated by the kidnapping and killing of Jessica Ridgeway, 10, in October in Golden, Colo.

Kusick was arrested because of his Halloween threats and made statements to police while on a mental health hold, court documents say. He allegedly told a therapist he stole a rifle from relatives and wanted to be known as "the man who killed Obama."

He allegedly said assassins have a big historical impact.

The Jefferson County school district said in a statement they cooperated with police in the investigation of a man threatening the trick or treat event planned at Standley Lake High School in Westminster, Colo. By the time the event took place, the district said, Kusick was in custody and children were never in danger.
