GILBERT, Ariz., Nov. 13 (UPI) -- A Gilbert, Ariz., woman ran her sport utility vehicle over her husband because she was angry that he did not vote in the presidential election, police said.

The husband, Daniel Solomon, was hospitalized in critical condition, KPHO-TV, Phoenix, reported Tuesday.

His wife, Holly Solomon, faces charges of aggravated assault and reckless driving.

Investigators said Holly Solomon, 28 and pregnant, ran over her husband, Daniel, after he exited the vehicle during an argument about the election. Police said the wife was upset that Barack Obama won re-election.

The two were in a parking lot when the incident occurred Saturday.

"At one point he went behind a light pole so the vehicle wouldn't strike him," Gilbert Police Sgt. Jesse Sanger said. "He ended up leaving the light pole, trying to run away to a different area" when she hit him.

Emergency medical personnel said Daniel Solomon was pinned underneath the vehicle, KPHO said. When asked why she did it, officers said Holly Solomon told them she wanted to scare her husband, but hit the gas and instead of the brake.
