More Americans traveling for Thanksgiving

Nov. 13, 2012 at 3:36 PM   |   Comments

ORLANDO, Fla., Nov. 13 (UPI) -- The American Automobile Association predicts a slight uptick in Thanksgiving holiday travel over last year.

AAA said 43.6 million Americans will travel 50 miles or more from home during the Thanksgiving weekend, or 0.7 percent more than 2011. The increase comes for the fourth year in a row after the financial collapse in 2008 prompted more than one-quarter of would-be travelers to stay home that year.

Of the nation's travelers, 90 percent will drive. The volume of air travelers is expected to decline slightly, from 3.2 million last year to 3.14 million this year, AAA said.
