GOP sweeps Arkansas House races

LITTLE ROCK, Ark., Nov. 7 (UPI) -- Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney won Arkansas in a landslide Tuesday and the GOP also swept the state's congressional races.

Romney captured 61 percent of the popular vote with 85 percent of the ballots counted compared with 37 percent for President Obama, who nonetheless won a second term with a decisive victory in the Electoral College.

The GOP went 4-for-4 in the House contests. Rick Crawford, Tim Griffin, Tom Cotton and Steve Womack all won comfortably. The Democrats did not field a candidate in District 3 where Womack won 77 percent of the vote against a pair of nominal candidates from the Green and Libertarian parties.

A ballot measure legalizing medical marijuana in Arkansas remained undecided late Tuesday. Issue 5 trailed with 67 percent of the votes counted by 4 percentage points.
