Sex offenders on Halloween house arrest

ATLANTA, Oct. 31 (UPI) -- Georgia's 900 paroled sex offenders will be placed under house arrest or forced to report to their parole officer Halloween night, state officials said.

Convicts will not be allowed to entertain trick-or-treating children, decorate their homes or do anything else to attract costumed young revelers headed door to door in search of candy.

"[Sex offenders] have been strictly directed not to do anything to entice children to their homes," said Jay Lacienski, field operations director for the State Board of Pardons and Paroles.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Wednesday sex offenders may get a visit of another kind, from a state parole officer conducting random checks on post-release sex offenders to ensure compliance.
