HOUSTON, Oct. 31 (UPI) -- Police in Houston have arrested a man they believe is responsible for as many as 14 burglaries since the summer, his last with his son waiting in the car.

Bernard Cardenas, 34, of Pasadena, Texas, was arrested Oct. 18, the Houston Chronicle reported Wednesday in the middle of a burglary while his 3-year-old son was left in the car. Officers had been put on notice for Cardenas' black Acura in relation to other break-ins and spotted and followed it.

While surveying the car, officers said Cardenas parked in a driveway, knocked on the door and, when no one answered, allegedly kicked in the door. He was apprehended as he left the residence and was found in possession of a stolen handgun, police said.

The boy was not hurt.
