ATLANTA, Oct. 30 (UPI) -- Atlanta police have arrested a teacher at a prominent private school on charges of possession of child pornography, a letter sent to parents indicates.

Headmaster Fred Assaf of Pace Academy said in the letter the teacher was fired immediately after the school learned of the arrest, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Tuesday.

"We are cooperating with federal agents as they continue their investigation," Assaf said, adding that according to federal investigators, the teacher was not involved with any current or former Pace students.

The arrest of the teacher was part of a multiyear federal investigation, Assaf said in the letter.
