CHESTER, N.C., Oct. 29 (UPI) -- An experienced skydiver who used "a perfectly good parachute" on a jump in North Carolina died in a hospital after he made a "hard landing," officials said.

The man had been trying an advanced landing maneuver, said James La Barrie, general manager of Skydive Carolina.

The term "hard landing" was used by officials describing the accident.

The victim, whose name was not reported, was taken to a hospital Sunday morning after a jump, The Charlotte (N.C.) Observer reported.

He received treatment at the Chester Regional Medical Center and was later airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center, where he died, said Eddie Murphy, an emergency management official.

La Barrie said the man "had a perfectly good parachute." He said there was no equipment malfunction and the diver was experienced.
