NYPD cop planned to kidnap, cook women

NEW YORK, Oct. 25 (UPI) -- A New York City police officer was charged Thursday with plotting to kidnap and cook scores of women in what the department called a "bizarre" scheme.

Gilberto Valle III, an officer assigned to a precinct in Harlem, is said to have spoken of kidnapping as many as 100 women and told an unidentified co-conspirator he wanted to put the women in his oven or some sort of open air fire and cook them alive.

"This is a bizarre case," New York Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said. "We suspended the officer immediately upon his arrest, and a review is now underway to determine whether there was anything in his background that should have alerted the department to his alleged proclivities."

ABC News said Valle never went through with any of his plans.

Valle has been suspended without pay.
