DALLAS, Ga., Oct. 25 (UPI) -- A man who believes he is the biological father of an allegedly abused Georgia teen hopes to be reunited with the son he has not seen since the youth was 3.
Tony Wawrzynski told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution his girlfriend left him while he was at work, taking the boy with her. He said he tried for years to find his son.
Sheila Comer, Mitch's mother, and his stepfather, Paul Comer, were indicted this week on child abuse charges. Investigators said they kept the son, Mitch, locked in a bathroom and gave him so little food he weighed only 87 pounds when he was found at a bus station in Los Angeles.
The Comers allegedly put the boy on a bus in Georgia and sent him across the country.
Investigators from Paulding County in Georgia got in touch with Wawrzynski after finding a letter from him during a search of the Comers' home. Wawrzynski said his former girlfriend never answered that letter or others he sent her.
Wawrzynski was living in Phoenix when Mitch vanished from his life. He is now an engineer in Reno, Nev., and has two younger sons.
"It's been really hard on me, I mean, me and Mitch when he was a baby, we were really close," Wawrzynski said. "We were inseparable. When Mitch was a baby, I was the one that fed him. I was the one that changed his diapers."
