PRINCETON, N.J., Oct. 24 (UPI) -- The Gallup Daily Tracking Poll Wednesday indicated U.S. President Barack Obama was gaining on his Republican rival among both registered and likely voters.

The poll among registered voters indicated Obama leading former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney 48 percent to 47 percent -- Obama gaining a point since Tuesday and Romney losing one.

Among likely voters, Romney led Obama 50 percent to 47 percent but Obama's support went up a point and Romney's went down by the same margin.

Obama's approval rating also gained 2 points to 53 percent, while his disapproval rating went down 3 points to 42 percent.

The poll includes the opinions of 1,004 adults across the country.

Gallup also reported 21 percent of those queried approved of the job Congress is doing, the highest rating since May 2011 when it hit 24 percent and up from 10 percent in August survey.

The congressional survey was conducted Oct. 15-16 and has an error rate of 4 percentage points.
