WASHINGTON, Oct. 23 (UPI) -- A plurality of likely voters said U.S. President Obama has not met their expectations since he took office in 2009, a United Press International poll indicated.
Forty-three percent of likely voters said Obama failed to meet their expectations while 16 percent said Obama met their expectations and 28 percent said he met their expectations to some extent, results of a UPI-CVoter poll released Tuesday indicated.
More women than men said Obama met their expectations, 47 percent to 39 percent, results said.
Thirty-four percent of millennial voters -- the 18-34 age voting bloc -- said Obama did not meet their expectations while 46 percent in the 35-54 age group and 47 percent of voters age 55 and older said he did not meet expectations.
Forty-seven percent of employed voters and 45 percent of retired people said Obama failed to meet their expectations, results indicated.
Support for Obama is overwhelming among blacks and Asians, with as much as 81 percent in both demographics saying he met their expectations, whether either fully or partially. Fifteen percent of blacks and 19 percent of Asians said he did not.
Forty-nine percent of whites said Obama had not lived up to their expectations since he took office in 2009 while 13 percent said he completely met their expectations and 35 percent said he met some of their expectations.
Among independent voters, 10 percent said the Obama met their expectations, 42 percent said he met them somewhat and 45 percent said he did not.
Results are based on nationwide telephone interviews conducted Oct. 8-21 with 2,632 adults who said they were likely to vote for Nov. 6. The margin of error is 3.5 percentage points.
