STATE COLLEGE, Pa., Oct. 23 (UPI) -- Convicted child molester and ex-Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky was transferred to a different prison Tuesday, Pennsylvania officials said.
Sandusky had been held at the Centre County prison since his sentencing Oct. 9. He was taken to Camp Hill prison, the Centre Daily Times of State College reported. He will undergo an evaluation so the state can determine to which prison he should be sent to permanently serve out his 30-60-year term following his conviction in August for serial child molestation while defensive coordinator under famed coach Joe Paterno.
In other legal news related to the Sandusky abuse scandal, school officials have asked to put off a lawsuit filed by Mike McQueary, the former graduate assistant who came upon Sandusky raping a boy in a shower.
Penn State lawyers asked for a delay until the conclusion of criminal proceedings against former university Vice President Gary Schultz and Athletic Director Tim Curley. Schultz and Curley are charged with perjury in covering up Sandusky's abuse after McQueary notified Paterno about what he'd seen. Investigators said Paterno and McQueary told Schultz and Curley about the allegations but no police report was ever filed. Sandusky was forbidden from using the school's locker room.
McQueary, who had gone on to become the team's quarterbacks coach, saw his contract expire in June. He is suing the school for $4 million in lost wages and legal fees, arguing his treatment by the university has damaged his reputation and cost him that much in future earnings.
The perjury charges against Schultz and Curley are expected to go to trial in January.
Penn State lawyers noted in their request to delay McQueary's lawsuit that several other civil claims have been put off until after all related criminal cases have been resolved.
