Romney: We need 'real change'

HENDERSON, Nev., Oct. 23 (UPI) -- U.S. Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney hammered at domestic issues Tuesday, saying the only way to improve the economy is "to have real change."

With two weeks remaining until Election Day, Romney, campaigning in Henderson, Nev., with running mate Paul Ryan, turned to familiar themes following Monday night's foreign policy debate during which President Obama lectured him on the dangers of shifting positions on the international stage.

Romney said he can handle "two more weeks of the attacks from Barack Obama, but we cannot handle four more years of what he is giving us: ... 23 million Americans looking for a good job ... housing prices going down and hit[ing] along the bottom ... doubling of the gasoline prices."

Romney pledged if he's elected, he will create 12 million new jobs during his four-year tenure, boost take-home pay and lower unemployment.

"Look, if we are going to see a real recovery and see that kind of direction, we are going to have to have real change," he said.

Ryan said the president has run out of ideas and is just trying to distract people from reality.

"We can do better than this," Ryan said. "We can get people back to work, we can get people back out of poverty back in the middle class."
