DURANT, Okla., Oct. 23 (UPI) -- An Oklahoma man is charged with first-degree burglary after surviving being shot by a 12-year-old girl hiding in a closet, officials said.
Police said Stacey Adam Jones, 32, broke into a home in Durant Wednesday and Kendra St. Clair inside shot him in the chest with a .40-caliber handgun when he opened the closet where she was hiding, The (Oklahoma City) Oklahoman reported Tuesday.
Jones was being held in the Bryan County jail in lieu of $250,000 bond, the newspaper said.
Police said Jones had posted a rambling message Oct. 10 on Craigslist.org with the subject "Desperate," in which he describes himself as out of work and homeless.
Police said Jones was involved in a 2011 incident in which he picked up a 17-year-old high school student who had the mental capacity of a 10- or 12-year-old child. Jones and the girl stayed together for a day before he dropped her off at a fire hall about 20 miles outside her home in Durant. Jones was not charged in that incident because the girl willingly went with him, police said.
