Mom enters plea in 'diaper duty' case

FRIDLEY, Minn., Oct. 23 (UPI) -- A Minnesota mother's fate is in the hands of a judge after she allegedly forced her 12-year-old to shave her head and run down the street in a diaper.

The woman, who newspaper accounts did not identify so as to protect the identity of her daughter, forced the girl into the humiliating position as punishment for a bad grade at school. The woman entered a "Lothenbach plea," which means a judge will determine her guilt or innocence and any appropriate punishment. The punishment by an Anoka County District judge cannot be appealed, but pretrial elements of the case can, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reported Monday.

The woman's 34-year-old husband, the victim's step-father, also has been charged in the case.

The criminal complaint said the girl came home with an "F" on her report card May 7. At that point, the mother put the girl on "diaper duty." Neighbors said the girl was running wind sprints outside in a diaper and tank top while crying hysterically in front of 30 to 50 people.

The girl and three siblings were placed in foster care.
