Jury being picked in Texas daycare trial

HOUSTON, Oct. 23 (UPI) -- Jury selection began in Houston Tuesday in the murder trial of Jessica Tata, accused in the 2011 deaths of four children under her care.

Tata, 24, is charged with felony murder for allegedly leaving the children, age 16 months to 3 years, in her home daycare, which caught fire when a pot of oil was left burning on a stove while she went out grocery shopping. She is also charged with seven counts of felony child endangerment; three other children were injured in the fire.

The trial will begin Wednesday in District Judge Marc Brown's court, the Houston Chronicle reported Tuesday.
