ALEXANDRIA, Va., Oct. 23 (UPI) -- Former CIA officer John Kiriakou pleaded guilty in federal court in Alexandria, Va., Tuesday to one count of disclosing the identity of an undercover operative.
Kiriakou had charges of leaking classified information dropped, and will be imprisoned for up to 30 months, ending a case involving the spilling of secrets to reporters and part of the Obama administration's crackdown of security leaks, The Washington Post reported.
The U.S. Justice Department dropped four other charges against Kiriakou, including sharing of national defense information with reporters and lying to the CIA's publications review board about the contents of a published memoir. He is most widely known for being among the first CIA officials to publicly discuss the agency's interrogation methods, describing the use of waterboarding on al-Qaida suspects in a 2007 television interview.
