UPI Poll: Most think Obama will win

Oct. 22, 2012 at 3:06 PM   |   Comments

WASHINGTON, Oct. 22 (UPI) -- A majority of U.S. voters say they believe President Obama will be re-elected, a United Press International poll released Monday indicated.

Fifty-three percent of likely voters surveyed said they thought Obama would win Nov. 6, no matter which candidate they support, results of the UPI-CVoter poll indicated. Thirty-six percent said they thought Romney would win. Eleven percent expressed no opinion.

Separately, another UPI-CVoter poll indicated Romney held a 48 percent-to-47 percent edge over Obama but because of the margin of error, the race was statistically in a dead heat.

Both men and women said they thought Obama will win a second presidential term, 53 percent and 54 percent, respectively.

Millennial voters, the 18-34 voting bloc that played a key role in Obama's election in 2008, also said they thought Obama would best Romney, 61 percent to 31 percent.

In states considered Democratic strongholds, Obama was seen as a likely winner, 59 percent to 31 percent, results indicated. In blue states, 49 percent said they thought Obama would win, while 39 said they thought Romney would come out on top. Tossup states fell 49 percent to 40 percent in favor of Obama.

Results are based on a nationwide survey of 2,632 likely voters conducted Oct. 8-21. The margin of error is 3.5 percentage points.
