DENVER, Oct. 21 (UPI) -- Thousands of zombies overran downtown Denver, marking the city's seventh annual Zombie Crawl.

The event brought more than 10,000 people-- a mix of zombies and spectators -- to the 16th Street Mall in Denver Saturday afternoon, The Denver Post reported.

"I love to see everyone's creativity," said Danny Newman, founder of the Denver Zombie Crawl. "The costumes that come out here blow my mind every year."

The Zombie Crawl began in 2006 as a way to celebrate Newman's birthday after he attended a similar event in San Francisco.

"I really always looked at this as a cool Denver tradition," Newman said. "You can be a dead anything. Whatever your normal Halloween costume was going to be, just throw some blood on it."

The event also featured a canned food drive for the Food Bank of the Rockies and the Bonfils Blood Drive.
