Paul was about 15 miles west-southwest of Punta Eugenia, Mexico, moving northwest at about 12 miles per hour, the National Hurricane Center in Miami said in its 2 p.m. EDT advisory.
Maximum sustained winds were 35 mph with higher gusts. The center of the post-tropical cyclone was expected to move away from Baja California Wednesday night before it completely dissipates Thursday.
Paul's remnants were expected to produce an additional inch of rain over central Baja California, with isolated storm totals of 10 inches in some areas.
Swells generated by Paul on the west coast of Baja California should subside tonight and Thursday, the hurricane center said.
