Prostitution client list includes ex-mayor

KENNEBUNK, Maine, Oct. 17 (UPI) -- The client list of an alleged prostitution ring run from a Maine fitness center includes the name of a former mayor of a nearby town, police said.

A judge Tuesday allowed police to release the names, addresses and ages of 21 of the suspected clients on a list of about 150 men, and reportedly one woman, accused of paying for sex at the Kennebunk, Maine, Zumba center run by Alexis Wright.

Wright, 29, has been charged with operating a prostitution ring from her dance studio. Among the names released is James Soule, 58, former mayor of nearby South Portland, Maine, who faces a misdemeanor charge, ABC News reported Wednesday.

Soule has not responded to requests for comment.

Mark Strong, 57, who is accused of booking clients at the Purda Vista Studio owned by Wright and who pleaded not guilty to 59 misdemeanor charges, issued a statement accusing the Kennebunk police of retaliation and unprofessional conduct, saying, "I never had sex with (Wright) for money. The charges against me are untrue. I will be vindicated in a jury trial."

The 21 men have been charged with engaging in prostitution and have been summoned to court Dec. 5, ABC News said.
