DETROIT, Oct. 17 (UPI) -- An IRS agent testified Wednesday there was no national mayor's meeting in Denver when former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick visited a ski resort in 2002.

The trip to Vail, Colo., with Christine Beatty, Kilpatrick's former mistress and chief of staff, is one of many improper uses of the Kilpatrick Civic Fund, federal prosecutors say. The fund paid $1,009 for the trip, the Detroit Free Press reported.

Kilpatrick's lawyer cross-examined Rowena Schuch about whether the Internal Revenue Service investigated the possibility Kilpatrick was having a smaller meeting with one mayor. She acknowledged she never actually called the mayor of Denver but said she did get in touch with three national mayor's organizations and found none met in Colorado in November 2002.

Testimony for the past two weeks has focused on the civic fund. A preschool teacher testified Wednesday the mayor's wife, Carlita Kilpatrick, gave the school a $5,000 check so they could rent a tent for the graduation ceremony the year his children graduated.

Kilpatrick, his father, Bernard, a former city contractor and the former head of the water department, are charged with bribery and corruption.
