Magnitude-4 quake shakes Maine

HOLLIS CENTER, Maine, Oct. 16 (UPI) -- A magnitude-4 earthquake centered in Maine shook much of New England Tuesday night, U.S. seismologists said.

The U.S. Geological Survey said the epicenter of the temblor, which occurred at 7:12 p.m. EDT at a depth of 4.2 miles, was 3 miles west of Hollis Center. Biddeford, Saco and West Scarborough are other Maine communities within about 13 miles of the epicenter, the USGS said.

News outlets reported Vermont, Connecticut and Massachusetts were among the regions that felt the shaking.

There were no immediate reports of any injuries or damage.
