Human remains found in plastic trash bag

HOUSTON, Oct. 16 (UPI) -- Apparent human skeletal remains were found Tuesday in northwest Harris County, Texas, following an anonymous telephone tip, investigators said.

The remains were found in a plastic trash bag near the edge of a wooded area, the Houston Chronicle reported Tuesday.

"At this point we don't have an ID and we don't know the gender," said Harris County Sheriff's Office homicide investigator Sgt. Felipe Rivers.

"When I walked through here I smelled something and thought it was a dead bobcat on the side of the road," said Dexter Norwood, who said he lives nearby and regularly takes walks in the area.

The newspaper said Norwood was not the tipster.

Deputies said a man spotted the bag and called 911, adding the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences would analyze the remains.
