Bees kill Texas man doing yardwork

SAN ANTONIO, Oct. 15 (UPI) -- A Texas man who was allergic to bees was killed by a swarm of them while doing yardwork with a mower, officials said.

"My dad knew the bees were there but I guess he didn't know how many there were," said Juan V. Urrutia's daughter, Marisol Soto. "When he rode by, the sound agitated the bees. He tried to run for shelter, but it was too late."

Urrutia, 65, died Thursday at Southwest General Hospital in Bexar County, the San Antonio Express-News reported.

Urrutia's brother, also stung, was treated and released from the hospital.

Doctors told relatives Juan Urrutia -- who'd never before suffered a bee sting -- was allergic to them.
