SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 15 (UPI) -- San Francisco police said they arrested two men suspected of stabbing a man as he headed to the 49ers game at Candlestick Park.

The 27-year-old victim, whose name was not reported, was walking with a group of five friends to the game Sunday along Harney Way, the San Francisco Chronicle reported Monday.

The two suspects, who were also headed to the game -- approached the group of six men and started a verbal altercation, San Francisco police Sgt. Michael Andraychak said.

One of the suspects allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim in the torso, the Chronicle reported. The man received life-threatening injuries but police said he is expected to survive.

The two suspects were identified only as a 30-year-old San Francisco man and a 22-year-old Daly City man, the newspaper said.
