MIAMI, Oct. 13 (UPI) -- A Secret Service agent was arrested in Miami after he was found lying on the ground and apparently drunk, police said.
Miami police arrested agent Aaron Francis Engler early Friday, The Miami Herald reported.
The incident occurred after President Barack Obama had campaigned at the University of Miami Thursday.
Engler was found passed out near Southwest Seventh Street and Brickell Avenue around 7 a.m. There was a "strong odor of [an] alcoholic beverage emitting from his breath," police said.
A police officer had to rouse him to help him sit up and stand, CNN reported.
When the officer tried to handcuff Engler, the agent began throwing his arms around and hit the officer's face. The officer called for backup and two other officers arrived and helped handcuff Engler, authorities said.
Miami police said Engle was released to members of the Secret Service Miami field office.
