HS freshman shoots self in front of class

FAIRMOUNT, N.D., Oct. 11 (UPI) -- A student in a North Dakota high school said he didn't want to hurt anyone else, and then shot himself in front of classmates Thursday, police said.

The freshman shot himself in the head in front of seven other freshmen students and a teacher, KXJB-TV, Fargo, N.D., reported.

Police said the teacher gave first aid to the shooter while the other students were taken to the library.

Richmond County Sheriff's Department officers said the student was conscious following the shooting and was taken to Saint Francis Medical Center, but his condition was unknown, the report said.

The school in the small southeastern North Dakota town of Fairmount, with only 110 pupils, let students go home for the day.
