Bank teller allegedly admits faking holdup

TUKWILA, Wash., Oct. 10 (UPI) -- A Washington state bank teller was charged with felony theft after allegedly faking a bank robbery, police said.

Jane Sol, 25, a teller at a Chase bank branch in Tukwila, is accused of lying to FBI and local police when she said a robber took $11,000 she gave him from her till June 20. The man she accused was actually a longtime customer who was in good standing at the bank, police said.

She initially told police she gave the money to a man who walked into the bank, claimed he was armed and demanded the money in an envelope. She said she complied with the robber's order not to report the theft for 30 minutes, Seattlepi.com reported.

Security footage revealed the man Sol had identified as the robber was a well-known and well-liked regular customer known to other employees at the bank. A review of security footage from the transaction confirmed no robbery had taken place.

Sol later admitted she'd stolen the money five days prior and forged bank documents to cover up her theft, police said.

She was charged with first-degree theft and false reporting.
