Agents seize 50 pounds of meth in raid

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y., Oct. 8 (UPI) -- Federal and state law enforcement officers seized 50 pounds of methamphetamine during a raid on a house in New Rochelle, N.Y., officials said.

The raid was carried out Sunday by Drug Enforcement Administration agents, as well as members of the New Rochelle Police Department, New York State Police and New York Police Department, the New Rochelle Talk of the Sound reported.

DEA spokeswoman Erin Mulvey said it is the biggest seizure of methamphetamine in New York State history. The 50 pounds of the drug, which were shipped in from the West Coast, have an estimated street value of $800,000.

Christopher Wendell Melendez, 31, and Jesus Villaneuva, 41, were both arrested at the scene. Additional arrests are expected, a DEA spokesperson said.
