WASHINGTON, Oct. 7 (UPI) -- President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary with a dinner in Washington, D.C.

The couple celebrated their anniversary on Saturday, although their actual anniversary fell on Wednesday, the night of the presidential debate in Denver, the White House said in a report.

The Obamas dined at Bourbon Steak at the Four Seasons hotel, The Hill reported.

At the debate Wednesday, Obama acknowledged his anniversary in his opening remarks, saying that "20 years ago I became the luckiest man on Earth because Michelle Obama agreed to marry me."

"A year from now we will not be celebrating it in front of 40 million people," the president said.
