SF archbishop sentenced in DUI case

SAN DIEGO, Oct. 5 (UPI) -- San Francisco's Catholic archbishop, who was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving, pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of reckless driving, records show.

Salvatore Joseph Cordileone entered the plea Monday in San Diego County Superior Court and was sentenced to three years' probation, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Cordileone, 56, was arrested in August after being stopped at a routine late-night checkpoint near San Diego State University. He was booked into the county jail on suspicion of drunken driving.

Cordileone was also ordered to pay a $1,120 fine and to attend a panel discussion sponsored by Mothers Against Drun Driving.
