Parents want daughter on respirator

NEW YORK, Oct. 4 (UPI) -- A young woman with terminal cancer has asked a New York judge to allow her to be removed from life support, a move her parents oppose.

Grace Sung Eun Lee's parents testified Wednesday they still hope God will save their daughter's life, the New York Daily News reported. Her father, the Rev. Manho Lee, is the minister of Antioch Missionary Church in the borough of Queens, and the parents also said they believe that what their daughter wants is an act of suicide that will send her to hell.

"Despite all this confusion, she wants to go to heaven," Jin-Ah Lee told the News. "I keep telling her she can get better. God's going to save you."

Grace Lee, 28, a former financial manager at the Bank of America in New York, has an inoperable tumor on her brain stem. Her doctors at North Shore Hospital on Long Island say she is competent to make decisions about her medical treatment.

She had four words Wednesday for the appellate judges now deciding the case: "I want to die."
