Detroit police chief suspended

DETROIT, Oct. 3 (UPI) -- The head of the Detroit Police Department has been suspended amidst allegations of an affair with a female subordinate, Mayor Dave Bing said.

Bing said Tuesday Chief Ralph Godbee would be suspended with pay for at least 30 days, The Detroit News reported.

Sources told the newspaper an internal affairs officer became upset when Godbee went to a police chiefs convention in California with another woman, one who is not a police officer. Angelica Robinson posted a photograph online that showed her holding a Glock handgun in her mouth.

In an interview with WJBK-TV in Detroit, Robinson described Godbee, who is also a minister, as a "sex addict."

"He loves to have sex with all different women," Robinson said. "One woman does not satisfy him ... . There's plenty more out here that Pastor Godbee preys upon with his spiritual talk."

Godbee, who is estranged from his wife, joined the police department in 1987. He became chief in 2010, succeeding Warren Evans.

Evans was forced out because of his involvement with a reality TV show proposal and questions about an affair with police Lt. Monique Patterson. After Godbee became chief, Patterson revealed she had had an affair with him as well, the Detroit Free Press said.
