T.S. Nadine could douse Azores with rain

MIAMI, Oct. 2 (UPI) -- A tropical storm warning was in effect for the Azores Tuesday as Tropical Storm Nadine swirled in the Atlantic Ocean, U.S. forecasters said.

Nadine, with maximum sustained winds of 65 mph, was about 655 miles west-southwest of the Azores, moving east-southeast at 7 mph, the National Hurricane Center in Miami said in its 8 a.m. EDT advisory.

Nadine was expected to produce between 1-2 inches of rain over parts of the archipelago through Thursday, forecasters said.

Nadine was expected to turn to the east Tuesday, and then shift toward the northeast Wednesday with an increase in forward speed, forecasters said.

The storm is expected to weaken during the next 48 hours.

Tropical storm-force winds extended outward from center up to 115 mph.
