Groom arrested on his wedding day

HOUSTON, Oct. 2 (UPI) -- An alleged altercation at a wedding reception resulted in the arrest of two Texas police deputies -- one of whom was the groom -- authorities said.

More than 250 people attended the reception of Kevin Meyer and his bride Raquel Saturday at a lodge in Northwest Houston. Harris County, Texas, deputy constables, working as security, had problems with crowd control when lodge officials asked them to shut down the party, KHOU-TV, Houston, reported Tuesday.

Meyer's father allegedly pushed a constable, and another constable, Christopher Lock -- who was a guest at the reception -- allegedly got involved in the fracas. Lock was arrested for criminal trespassing after he refused to leave and Meyer, the groom, was arrested for interfering with the duties of a public servant, the television station said.

"They are devastated," said Meyer's lawyer, Jed Silverman, of the wedding couple. "It was their wedding and her husband got arrested. It's a huge letdown to my client on his wedding day."
