Hurricane Nadine plods in Atlantic

MIAMI, Oct. 1 (UPI) -- Hurricane Nadine slowly weakened as it moved in the Atlantic Ocean Monday, hundreds of miles off the Azores, U.S. forecasters said.

Nadine, a Category 1 hurricane with sustained winds of 75 mph, was about 685 miles west of the Azores, moving on a southerly path at 6 mph, the National Hurricane Center in Miami said in its 5 a.m. EDT advisory.

No coastal watches or warnings were in effect.

Nadine was expected to shift to the southeast later in the day, then turn east Tuesday, slowly weakening, the center said.

Hurricane-force winds extended outward from center up to 35 miles. Tropical storm-force winds extended outward from center up to 125 miles.
