Sandusky victim to release book

STATE COLLEGE, Pa., Sept. 28 (UPI) -- A victim in the sexual abuse case against former Penn State University assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky will reveal his identity in a book next month.

The Clinton County 18-year-old, identified in court documents as Victim 1, will reveal his identity in a television interview that will coincide with the release of his book on Oct. 23, The (Allentown, Pa.) Morning Call reported.

Clifford Rieders, a lawyer representing the victim, said telling their stories can be liberating for sexual abuse victims.

"A lot of times secrecy is part of the abuse," Rieders said. "One could understand why a victim might want to tell his or her story in a forum that they can control."

The book, titled "Silent No More: Victim #1's Fight for Justice Against Jerry Sandusky," was co-written by the victim's mother and a psychologist and details the victim's abuse before he reported it to authorities.

"Victim No. 1's story is an unforgettable depiction of the institutional power that coddled and enabled a sexual predator and a moving account of a family's fight for justice against all odds," said the book's publisher, Random House.

Sandusky, 68, was convicted of 45 counts related to the sexual abuse of 10 boys, including Victim 1, at the end of a two-week trial in June. He is be sentenced Oct. 9 in Centre County Court.
