LOS ANGELES, Sept. 28 (UPI) -- The Los Angeles City Council voted 12-0 Friday to approve plans for the $1.2 billion Farmers Field National Football League stadium.
The project, privately funded by the Anschutz Entertainment Group, includes a revamped LA Convention Center and a 76,000-seat stadium, the Los Angeles Times reported.
"This morning we're going to take a giant step forward in the city of Los Angeles. This is about bringing football back to the city of Los Angeles, and don't let anybody tell you it's not," Councilwoman Jan Perry said before the vote, adding Farmers Field will create thousands of jobs and substantial tax revenue for the city.
Councilman Paul Koretz said his car is sporting a bumper sticker reading "Bring Back the LA Rams."
The vote was unanimous despite concerns about the effects on traffic and the environment.
