UNITED NATIONS, Sept. 28 (UPI) -- Iranian Deputy Ambassador to the United Nations Es'haq Al-e-Habib said his country is prepared to retaliate against any attack on its soil.
Addressing the U.N. General Assembly Thursday, Al-e-Habib repeated his country's claim that its nuclear energy program was for peaceful purposes, dismissing charges it was building nuclear weapons, and warning Iran is strong enough to defend itself and reserves the right to retaliate with full force against any attack.
The envoy made the comments after Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu made claims in his General Assembly speech that Iran would achieve nuclear capability by next summer, the Iranian state-supported news agency Press TV reported Friday.
Al-e-Habib said Israel is a regime based on terrorism and the founding father of state terrorism in the world, adding, "In our increasingly interconnected world and in the information age, it is hardly possible for nations to be fooled by such means."
