Dems targeting GOP over farm bill delay

WASHINGTON, Sept. 28 (UPI) -- Democrats are attempting to make political points over failure of the Republican-controlled House to pass a farm bill, The Hill reported.

The Senate passed a bill to provide aid and subsidies to farmers nationwide, but the House wasn't able to act before the current law expires Sunday, the newspaper said.

Democrats in farm states have been quick to associate their Republican opponents with the House delay, the report said.

In South Dakota, Republican Rep. Rick Berg, who is running for the Senate, has been targeted by the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, The Hill said.

Lawmakers made a last-minute attempt to bring the bill to the floor before the chamber adjourned, but Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, said last week the House would pick up the legislation again after the November elections.
