Man gets 2 years for killing dog

ELGIN, Ill., Sept. 27 (UPI) -- An Illinois man who killed his roommate's chihuahua was sentenced to two years in prison in a plea bargain, prosecutors said.

Oscar Guerrero, 20, of Elgin, pleaded guilty to a single count of aggravated cruelty to an animal for throwing the small dog into a wall and killing it, the Chicago Tribune reported.

Guerrero was sentenced to two years in prison Wednesday, Kane County prosecutors said.

Guerrero was arrested on May 13 at his residence. Police said Guerrero woke his roommate up, and an argument ensued, during which Guerrero picked the chihuahua up and hurled it at the wall.

Guerrero told police that he had been drinking before the incident.
