Fort Hood shooting suspect hospitalized

FORT HOOD, Texas, Sept. 24 (UPI) -- Suspected Forth Hood, Texas, shooter Maj. Nidal Hasan has been hospitalized, though U.S. military officials won't say why.

Hasan, who is awaiting capital murder charges after being suspected of killing 13 people and wounding 32 more in a shooting rampage at Fort Hood, has been in poor health, a former lawyer of his said. The San Antonio Express-News reported that Hasan, who was wounded at the end of the attack, is paralyzed from the chest down.

"His condition is serious," said Col. John Galligan, Hasan's former lawyer. Galligan left the case for undisclosed reasons and Hasan is now being represented by a trio of Army lawyers.

Hasan is confined to a wheelchair he pushes under his own power, the newspaper reported.
