DENVER, Sept. 23 (UPI) -- Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney told supporters in Colorado Sunday night Democratic President Obama is "out of ideas" and "out of excuses."

The former Massachusetts governor and Bain Capital co-founder assailed Obama's economic record, zeroing in on the nation's high jobless rate and blossoming debt, The Hill reported.

"It's very clear we can't afford four more years like the last four years," Romney said during the outdoor rally in suburban Denver. "That's why we're going to get the change in Washington that the American people deserve.

Obama, he charged, has nothing new to offer to get the economy revved up, the Washington publication said.

"He's out of ideas. He's out of excuses," Romney said. "And in November we'll get him out of office. His choice is status quo. My choice is bold, new ideas."

Romney's stump speech included his five-point plan for the economy that leans heavily on pushing for U.S. energy independence and loosening regulatory restraints on businesses. He said his business background makes him the better choice for directing efforts to create the millions of jobs needed to lower the ranks of the unemployed.

"Sometimes, I don't think this president and his people understand these entrepreneurs, these dreamers," Romney said.

The Denver Post reported several recent polls put Obama slightly ahead of Romney in the swing state with Election Day just 44 days off. Romney hadn't been in the state for nearly two months, the newspaper noted.
