CHARLESTOWN, Mass., Sept. 23 (UPI) -- A Massachusetts man was arrested for allegedly poisoning dogs at an apartment building in Charlestown with hot dogs soaked in antifreeze, officials said.

Kenneth Hyland, 53, was arrested Friday on charges of poisoning animals for the alleged scheme, the Boston Herald reported.

A resident of a Charlestown apartment building, where Hyland worked at as a landscaper, said his dog became sick about six months ago after eating green pieces of hot dogs it in the grass outside the building.

Then, last Sunday, the dog owner saw Hyland holding a five-gallon bucket full of chopped-up hot dogs soaking in what appeared to be antifreeze, police said.

The dog owner said he watched Hyland put the hot dog pieces on the ground, police said. Then, the dog owner and other tenants picked up the pieces and brought them to the police.

Hyland is set to be arraigned Monday.
