WindSeeker rides shut down temporarily

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 22 (UPI) -- WindSeeker swing rides at all Knott's Berry Farm amusement parks in the United States have been temporarily closed, the company's owner says.

There were two breakdowns this month on the ride that left riders stuck hundreds of feet up for several hours. The more recent one stranded 20 people for 3 1/2 hours Wednesday at the park in Orange County in Southern California.

Cedar Fair, which owns Knott's Berry Farm, told the Los Angeles Times it plans an internal investigation on five incidents involving the WindSeeker.

The WindSeeker, built by Mondia Rides in The Netherlands, has a 301-foot tower and 32 two-seater gondolas. Once riders are at the top of the tower, metal arms spin them for a minute.
